CITY ROAD CLOSURES

January 2 – January 8, 2016

New – Carancahua Street

Saturday

On Saturday, January 2; weather permitting, Carancahua Street will be closed to traffic between Lipan Street and Leopard Street. Mestina Street will be closed between Upper Broadway and Carancahua Street. During the day, northbound Carancahua Street traffic will detour onto westbound Lipan Street, then onto Staples Street to Leopard Street.

 

New – Elizabeth Street

Monday - Friday

On Monday, January 4 through Friday, January 8; weather permitting, contractors will implement the following street closures for a garage demolition:

Santa Fe Street:  Northbound Santa Fe right turn lanes will be reduced to one turning lane onto eastbound Elizabeth Street.

Elizabeth Street: Eastbound Elizabeth Street traffic will be reduce to one lane from Santa Fe Street to Third Street.  Westbound Elizabeth Street traffic will be reduce to one lane from the hospital overpass walkway to Third Street.

Third Street:  Third Street will be reduced to one lane of traffic from Elizabeth Street to 100 feet north of the hospital’s garage.

 

New - Staples Street

Monday – Friday

On Monday, January 4, Tuesday, January 5 and Thursday, January 7, Staples Street will be closed to traffic between Leopard Street and Lipan Street.  Southbound Staples Street traffic will detour to Leopard Street, then onto Tancahua Street, onto Lipan Street to Staples Street.  Northbound Staples Street traffic will detour onto eastbound Lipan Street, then onto Carancahua Street, onto Leopard Street to Staples Street.

Beginning Monday, December 14, and until completion; northbound Staples Street traffic between Lipan Street and Leopard Street will be shifted onto the southbound lanes with one lane in each direction.  Traffic control devices will remain in place on Leopard Street, Mestina Street and Lipan Street.

Through January 15, 2016; weather permitting, Mestina Street will be closed to traffic between Staples Street and Artesian Street.  Northbound Staples Street traffic will detour onto eastbound Leopard Street to Artesian Street. 

 

Horne Road

Monday - Friday

Beginning Thursday, October 8, and until completion, City contractors will be doing utility/road work on Horne Road between Ayers Street and Port Avenue.  As this work is ongoing, Horne Road westbound traffic will be shifted onto the eastbound with one lane of traffic in each direction.

 

Staples Street

Monday - Friday

Beginning on Tuesday, November 2, weather permitting; eastbound Leopard Street traffic will be shifted to the westbound lanes with one lane of traffic in each direction through the Staples Street intersection.  In addition, the southbound Staples Street lanes will be closed between Antelope Street and Lipan Street and traffic will be shifted onto the northbound lanes with one lane in each direction.  Southbound traffic will detour east onto Antelope Street, south onto Waco Street and west onto Leopard Street to Staples Street.  Artesian Street will be closed from Leopard Street through Mestina Street.  Two-way traffic will be allowed on Mestina Street from N. Staples Street to Waco Street. The first west entrance to the Nueces County Courthouse on Mestina Street will remain open.

 

RTA Transfer Station Demolition

Monday – Friday

Beginning on Monday, August 24, and until the new Regional Transportation Authority building is open the following traffic control plan will be implemented:

Sam Rankin Street and Josephine Street will be closed to traffic. Those needing access to the City Hall parking lots will need to enter Sam Rankin through Mestina Street. No left turns will be permitted on to Sam Rankin Street or Josephine Street from Leopard Street.  Motorists will detour through Mestina Street to Brownlee Boulevard. Access to Leopard Street though Mexico Street will also be available. In addition, the bus parking space will be extend in front of Josephine Street and Sam Rankin Street intersection on Leopard Street.

 

McArdle Road (Road Work)

Saturday – Friday

For the next six months; weather permitting, City contractors will be working on McArdle Road. During this period, the following traffic control plan will be implemented:

  • McArdle Road from Rodd Field Road to Nile Drive will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
  • McArdle Road from Rodd Field Road to Ennis Joslin Road will be reduce to one lane eastbound to Ennis Joslin Road. Motorist needing access to this section of McArdle will take South Padre Island Drive, then to Rodd Field to McArdle Road.

 

McArdle Road (Utility Work)

Saturday - Friday

Beginning April 24 and for the next six months, contractors will be working inside city utility manholes. Eastbound McArdle Road will be reduced to one lane and shift northbound Weber Road traffic to the southbound lanes, reducing traffic to one lane in each direction.  Work will begin at the Weber Road intersection and move westbound toward Carroll Lane.

 

McArdle Road Bond Project

Saturday – Friday

McArdle Road will be closed between Nile Drive and Rodd Field Road. Westbound McArdle Road traffic will detour onto Aswan Drive then to Nile Drive. Eastbound McArdle Road traffic will detour onto southbound Nile Drive, to Southhaven Drive then to Rodd Field Road.

All street intersections between Nile Drive and Rodd Field will be closed to traffic. Northbound traffic will be shifted to the west side of Nile Drive with one lane in each direction.

 

Cosmopolitan Construction

Saturday - Friday

Lawrence Street will be closed from Mesquite Street to Chaparral Street. There is no parking permitted on Mesquite Street from Schatzell Street to Lawrence Street.
