City of Corpus Christi Hurricane Preparedness Sandbag Distribution

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – In preparation for hurricane season, which began June 1, the City’s Public Works Department will be distributing free sandbags to the public on select weekends starting in June in four different areas of the City.

City crews will distribute 3,000 free sandbags at each location for a total of 12,000 sandbags across the four different locations. Residents will receive a maximum of seven free sandbags per vehicle. Drivers are asked to clear an area in the trunk or bed of their vehicle to stow the sandbags. Drivers and passengers must remain inside their cars while they are being loaded.

The first event will begin this Saturday, June 12, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., or until all bags are given away, at West Guth Park, located at 9700 Up River Road. The second event will be held on Sunday, June 13, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., or until all bags are given away, at the J.C. Elliott Transfer Station, located at 7001 Ayers Street.

For the final two events, Public Works crews will distribute the pre-filled sandbags. Both events will take place on Saturday, June 19, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (or until all bags have been distributed). The first location will be at Waldron Field, 3746 Waldron Road. The second location will be at the City Service Center on Civitan at 5352 Ayers Street.
