City Leadership Continues to Prepare for COVID-19

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Today, Mayor Joe McComb and City Manager Peter Zanoni discussed available options in order to move forward proactively in declaring a Public Health Emergency. A declaration gives local government the ability to access state and federal resources. Their actions were coordinated with County Judge Barbara Canales. The team deemed it necessary to proceed with the declarations and both the Mayor and Judge declared a local State of Disaster declaration today.

The City Manager Zanoni also participated in a conference call with other city managers from across the nation. They discussed how cities are responding to COVID-19 and best practices that have been successful in addressing the virus.

Zanoni also met with Dr. Osbert Blow with Christus Spohn Health Systems to discuss the feasibility of implementing a drive-thru testing center. The mobile site will allow medical staff to test persons showing symptoms of COVID-19 while in their car limiting the exposure to public and medical staff. City and Spohn staff are evaluating the best location for the testing and more information will follow.

Local officials continue to work cooperatively on the protection of our community against the threat of COVID-19.
