City Council Approves New Collective Bargaining Agreement With the Corpus Christi Professional Firefighters Association

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Mayor Joe McComb and City Council approved a new collective bargaining agreement between the Corpus Christi Professional Firefighters Association Local 936 (CCPFFA) and the City of Corpus Christi at today’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting. On Friday, August 14, the CCPFFA members voted in favor of the proposed tentative contract.

The four-year contract runs from October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2024. Through the agreement, both sides were able to come to terms on various economic and non-economic issues. Below are some of the highlights:

  • COLA for all Firefighters
    • FY 20-21 – 0%
    • FY 21-22 – 1%
    • FY 22-23 – 2%
    • FY 23-24 – 2%
       
  • Beginning FY 20-21 and the remaining three years, a 7-Year Step in the Step Pay Plan will be added. An additional 1% increase will be added to the 10-Year Step in the Step Pay Plan
     
  • Increased Higher Acting Pay
    • Acting Firefighter II - From $18 to $40 a shift
    • Acting Captain - From $24 to $50 a shift
    • Acting Battalion Chief - From $36 to $60 a shift
    • Acting Assistant Chief - From $48 to $70 a shift
  • Increase in Longevity Pay from $6/month for each year of service for first 15 years then $4/month additional for each year of services capped at 25 years to $12.50/month for each year of service starting at year one capped at 25 years
     
  • Increase in Staff Assignment Pay (Firefighters on a 40-hour workweek)
    • 0-3 years: Increased from $150 per month to $225 per month
    • 4-5 year: Increased from $200 per month to $275 per month
    • 6 or more: Increase from $225 per month to $300 per month
       
  • Haz-Mat Station Assignment Pay increase from $75 per month to $125 per month
     
  • Healthcare Changes: Removal of the Fire PPO Plan and substituted a more balanced PPO Plan along with a Fire Consumer-Directed Health Plan with a Health Savings Account option. The City still provides 100% premium coverage for Firefighters and 50% for dependents

The Corpus Christi Professional Firefighters Association was founded in 1947 and is currently made up of nearly 400 men and women that work to protect and give back to the City of Corpus Christi. The CCPFFA provides Fire and EMS protection for the residents of the community. Their goal is to advocate for the safety and well-being of their members and the citizens of Corpus Christi through community action, volunteer work and support of local non-profit organizations.
