City Completes 12 Major Parks & Recreation Projects in FY 2024
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX ― The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department is contributing to the City’s efforts to inspire community connection and active lifestyles with the completion of 12 major development projects.
“We are diligently working towards transforming the city into a more inviting, vibrant, and enjoyable environment for residents and visitors through an ambitious array of capital improvement projects,” said Robert Dodd, Director of Parks & Recreation. “Over the past nine months, these enhancements have positively impacted neighborhoods across the city, promoting a more equitable community experience.”
The 12 projects have established an environment that promotes increased recreation, fitness, and social engagement through innovative state-of-the-art concepts in the design of recreational facilities and park amenities.
Completed Development & Capital Improvement Projects include:
- Watergarden Grand Re-Opening
- Miradors and Seawall Upgrades
- Packery Channel Dredging and Beach Renourishment
- Cole Park Playground and Splash Pad
- Lozano Golf Center Improvements, including Night Golf
- North Beach Surfside Park Restrooms, Parking, and Play Area
- West Guth Skate Park and Playground
- Bill Witt Park Playground
- Sherwood Dog Park
- Parker Park Tennis and Pickleball Courts
- St. Andrews Tennis Courts
- St. Denis Park Playground
The highly anticipated ribbon-cutting for the Bill Witt Aquatic Center on Yorktown Boulevard is scheduled for late 2024. This modern multipurpose facility will feature an outdoor 10-lane, 25-yard competition pool, a 7,500-square-foot recreational pool equipped with a flume slide, a spacious pool deck, a water play feature, shaded lounging and spectator areas, eating areas, a food truck parking area. The aquatic center will be an ideal location for swim meets and an appealing venue for gatherings and special events.
Building on this momentum, future growth and development projects to be completed by December 2024 will include:
- Hans & Pat Suter Wildlife Refuge Playground
- Wooldridge Park Playground
- Airline Park Playground
- Salinas Park Playground Improvements
