CCIA Runway and Taxiway Project Nearing Completion

Corpus Christi International Airport (CCIA) is preparing to re-open its main runway following the completion of the final phase of a major improvement project.

For the past five years, CCIA’s runways and taxiways have been given new life during a 50 million dollar safety and taxiway reconfiguration initiative. This project was 90% funded by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).  The completed work includes new taxiway connectors, new signage and lighting, relocated navigational aids, new sections of runway, and coal tar sealant on every inch of CCIA’s two runways.  “The new design of our runways and taxiways at CCIA gives us a safer system that will last well in to the future,” said Fred Segundo, the Director of Aviation at CCIA.  “We are thankful for the FAA’s support and funding of this project.”

The media is invited to tour Runway 13-31 before its’ anticipated reopening later this week.  The tour will be conducted on a chartered bus that will depart from the front of the terminal on Wednesday, May 25th at 10am.  Members of the media who would like to join us for the tour must RSVP no later than Tuesday at 5pm.  Due to security requirements, there will be no personal or media vehicles allowed on the tour.
