A Lifelong Tradition of Volunteering
Meet the 2017 Volunteer of the First Quarter
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can. Those may be simple words, but they stand as a powerful motto for people who choose to volunteer their time and talent for a variety of causes or organizations. City employee Arlene Medrano, Senior Management Assistant in the Fire Department, is one of those people.
She has worked for the city for three years, but Medrano’s work ethic does not only apply to her day job. She regularly volunteers for different local organizations. Her passion for giving back has not gone unnoticed, as she was recently named 2017 Volunteer of the First Quarter.
“I’m not always comfortable being recognized,” Medrano says of her recent accolade. “But volunteering is something that I have done my whole life and I consider it one of my core values.”
Medrano regularly helps such diverse organizations as the Food Bank of Corpus Christi, Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army through her involvement with Young Business Professionals of the Coastal Bend. The group has a full calendar of volunteer events and projects that keep members like Medrano busy throughout the year.
