CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – On Saturday, September 17, cyclists will be riding in this year’s 13th annual Conquer the Coast Bike Relay event. Cyclists will start at Bayfront Park and will have the option of riding in one of the three bike routes. The City of Corpus Christi encourages all motorists traveling along the event route to be mindful of various lane changes and courteous to participating cyclists.

Those participating in the 65-mile route will ride down Power Street, onto the Harbor Bridge to Portland, Ingleside, Port Aransas, Padre Island, to Waldron Road through the Naval Air Station- Corpus Christi, Ocean Drive and back to the finish line.

Cyclists in the 10- and 21-mile routes will ride southbound to Shoreline Boulevard and onto Ocean Drive to their turnaround points, then back to the finish line. The 10-mile turnaround will be at Doddridge Street and the 21-mile turnaround will be at the Naval Air Station- Corpus Christi north gate.

Southbound Ocean Drive:

Cyclists will share the road with vehicular traffic on southbound Shoreline Boulevard and Ocean Drive, with the exception of traveling through the Ocean Drive construction zone. Police will assist cyclists and motorists through the work zone between Furman Avenue and Ayers Street. Upon leaving the construction zone, cyclists will continue to ride unassisted with vehicular traffic.

Northbound Ocean Drive:

Cyclists participating in the 10-, 21-, and 65-mile bike routes will travel on northbound Ocean Drive to return to the finish line. Upon entering the construction zone at Ayers Street, Ocean Drive will be reduced to one lane of traffic where cyclists will ride on the right side of the traffic control devices and remain in the shoulder/parking lane. From here they will ride unassisted and without interference from vehicular traffic.

Corpus Christi Police will direct traffic at various intersections throughout the routes, and volunteer assistance will be available at each transition locations. Cyclists are encouraged to ride in groups through the construction zone.

At 6 a.m. Friday, September 16 no parking signs will be placed along the routes. At 4 a.m. Saturday the traffic control devices will be setup along the route and parking restrictions will be enforced.
