Traffic Engineering Awarded More Than $550,000 in Bike and Pedestrian Safety

The City of Corpus Christi Traffic Engineering Department was awarded more than $550,000 for improvements to bicycle paths and pedestrian crosswalks.

The Corpus Christi Metropolitan Planning Organization awarded the City $418,000 to support a Region-Wide Bike Boulevard Way-Finding Initiative, which assists with transportation options such as bike signage for branding designated areas and path directions. The signs will be installed throughout the city and installation is scheduled to begin this fall.

The organization awarded the City another $134,816 grant to support a Safe Shelter and Crossing Program that will assist with crosswalk safety at the Ocean Drive and Del Mar Boulevard intersection. This improved crosswalk will be included in the Ocean Drive Bond 2012 project.
