Street Operations Working to Improve Traffic Flow at Staples and Park Streets Intersection

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The City of Corpus Christi is working to improve driving conditions on Staples Street from IH 37 to Six Points. The street is currently receiving a full reconstruction and more traffic flow improvements will follow.

Street Operations will remove the traffic signal at the Staples Street and Park Street intersection starting within the coming weeks. A traffic signal study was conducted this past year, which determined the signal is now not needed at the intersection. To make traffic signal control more effective, signal heads, signal poles, and mast arms will be removed in phases.

Removal of the signalized intersection will first display red flashing lights on Park Street and yellow flashing lights on Staples Street to indicate a two-way stop on Park Street. Then the signal will be deactivated and stop signs will be placed on Park Street at the intersection. The final step will be complete removal of the traffic signal.
