South Texas Record Company Celebrates 50 Years of Music

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Ben F. McDonald Public Library will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Freddy Records during this month’s Pláticas Musicales event.

Grammy award-winning musician and performer Freddie Martinez, Sr. started his record label in his home in 1969. By 2001, the studio relocated to its headquarters at 5979 S. Staples Street. Some of the label’s artists are some of the biggest names in the Tejano and Conjunto music industry.

The free event takes place Wednesday, December 18, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the McDonald Public Library, 4044 Greenwood Drive.
