CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., "Life's most persistent and urgent question is ‘What are you doing for others?’” The MLK Day of Service is observed as a "day on," not a "day off."  MLK Day of Service is intended to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems, and move closer to Dr. King’s vision of a “Beloved Community.”

Members of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) along with Catholic Charites of Corpus Christi, Inc. DCM Program, Hands of Hope and the Tool Bank are working together on Project Comeback: Texas, as we continue helping persons affected by Hurricane Harvey. The RSVP group will be assembling a storage building in San Patricio County, one of the many counties still being served to meet Hurricane Harvey recovery needs.

The Senior Corps programs are administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Their contributions of skills, knowledge, and experience make a real difference to individuals, nonprofits, and faith-based and other community organizations throughout the United States. The local RSVP program is 332 volunteers strong, having served 42,230 volunteer hours during 2018, valued at $1,042,658.70 (per national calculator).
