Water Utilities Wins Texas American Water Works Association Conservation Award

Program started in 2013 gains state-wide recognition

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Today, Water Utilities was awarded the Water Conservation and Reuse Award for a Large Utility from the Texas American Water Works Association. This award recognizes the reductions in water consumption made through Water Utilities dead-end main flushing and lawn watering program.

In 2013 Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend experienced a severe drought placing the City in stage two drought restrictions to conserve water. During this time, Water Utilities created a new lawn watering program with water flushed from dead-end mains.

“I am very proud of our Water Utilities team for showing great initiative and implementing the dead-end main watering program. It’s an honor to gain state-wide recognition from our peers at the Texas American Water Works Association for our hard work and innovation,” Kevin Norton, Director of Water Utilities, said.

All customers that live near a location where dead-end main flushing occurs can participate in the program. Currently, 350 customers are participating in the yard watering program, and over 13% of the water flushed from dead-end mains is used to water customer’s yards.

Water Utilities encourages residents to find out if they live near a dead-end main and can participate in this award-winning program by calling 361-826-1234 or emailing WaterQuality@cctexas.com.
