Traffic Alert: Staples Street and Williams Drive Traffic Signal Improvements

The City’s Public Works Department is scheduled to perform safety enhancement to the traffic signals at the intersection of Staples Street and Williams Drive. This work is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, March 11 and finish on Thursday, March 12, weather and other factors permitting. All work will be performed during the day after 8 a.m.

Work on Wednesday will involve upgrading our traffic signal cabinets. During this work, the traffic signals will be temporarily inoperative for several hours. When the traffic signals are turned off, there will be temporary STOP signs at the intersection to guide traffic. Motorists should treat the intersection as a four-way stop. Police officers will be on the scene.

The work on Thursday will involve safety enhancements to upgrade signal heads to include flashing yellow left turn signals. This work will take several hours to complete. The left turn lane will be closed on the approach to traffic signals being upgraded. During the installation, the traffic signals at the intersection will be in flash mode. As a reminder, motorists must come to a complete stop when approaching a flashing red light.

Safety is a top priority, so motorists and pedestrians are reminded to be aware of the work zone, follow all traffic control devices, and use alternate routes to avoid delays.
