City Utility Bills Average $130 Monthly Online Bill Payment Company Survey Inaccurate

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – An online bill payment company recently named Corpus Christi as having one of the highest utility bills in the nation. In 2019, the average Corpus Christi residential customer paid $130 a month for city utility services compared to the incorrect $630 quoted in the company survey. The information is unfounded and inaccurate.

The for-profit online payment company used data from their customer base which represents only 3% of Corpus Christi utility customers. The City of Corpus Christi has 88,000 residential utility customers and 9,200 commercial customers.

“The survey is a tactic to promote the company and get more people to sign up for their online bill paying service,” said Peter Zanoni, City Manager. “The company included electricity in their calculations, which is deregulated in Texas, and not a service the City of Corpus Christi provides. Cities are routinely named in surveys across the country for a variety of topics. It is important our residents and customers know the information provided in this particular survey is incomplete and inaccurate,” added Zanoni.

The City of Corpus Christi has several utility rate calculators for customers. For more information visit https://water-calculator.cctexas.com/ or https://wastewater-calculator.netlify.com
