Learning Fun Ways to Get Outside! Register Online Now.
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve is getting ready for a nature-filled Spring Break week! Recent studies show that children spend between 7-11 hours a day sitting down. We want to show them how much fun they can have off the couch and outside. From fishing workshops to story times, to Girl Scout programs, to teacher workshops, we have lots of options to enjoy the Preserve.
The week will kick off with an Angler Education workshop on Monday, March 11, that will teach families the basics of fishing. This free workshop is open to 40 participants
, who will learn knot tying, types of fish, and practice casting.
Monday through Thursday afternoons will lead kids on an adventure to create outdoor exploration toys such as boats, kites, bird feeders, and sundials. These workshops will take place each day at 2 pm and participants will get to try out their craft after making it. Cost is $10 per participant, per event.
Girl Scouts will also get three chances to earn badges over the holiday week—on Tuesday, March 12, Brownies can earn their Outdoor Adventurer badge; on Thursday, March 14, Juniors can earn an Animal Habitats badge; and on Friday, March 15, Cadettes will work on their Outdoor Art badge. All programs are $10 per girl and badges are included.
Wednesday, March 13, offers the public a chance to meet our Animal Ambassadors, as well as animals from the Amos Rehabilitation Keep in Port Aransas. Join us at 10 am that day for a free Porch Talk program to learn all about the native species that call our area home. Other free programs include a nature walk on Tuesday morning at 8 am and Saturday morning at 9 am and a story time and craft at 2 pm on Friday.
Welder Wildlife Refuge will be hosting their Home on the Rangelands curriculum workshop for teachers on Saturday, March 16, from 9 am – 4 pm. The workshop cost is $20, which includes a digital copy of 27 classroom activities to help students learn about local wildlife.
We look forward to seeing everyone outside!
