City Celebrates Groundbreaking

For New Fire Station No. 18

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Fire Chief Robert Rocha was joined by Mayor Nelda Martinez, Council Members and City Manager Margie C. Rose to celebrate the beginning of construction for Fire Station No. 18.

The group was joined by former District 3 Councilwoman Priscilla Leal in the commemorative turning of the soil. Leal, a four-term Council Member, who was forced to leave office early after suffering a stroke, was a Fire Station No. 18 proponent. Leal believed that area of the City, which was in her district, was badly in need of fire protection.

The bond project consists of constructing a new single story building, with concrete paving drives, a parking area, new utilities and much more. Construction of the new fire station is expected to be complete by summer of 2017. The estimated cost of the project is $1.8 million.
