Police K-9 Unit Receives Awards in Statewide Competition

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - The Police Department’s K9 Unit recently participated in its annual training competition held in Hidalgo County. Senior Officer Jason Lavastida and his K9 partner named Indy, placed third in the Patrol Division and second in the Obedience Division. Indy also went on to take the “Top Dog” honors for the Patrol and Detection Division and was awarded a special ballistic vest worth $1500. Also, Senior Officer Bernie Moss and his dog, Tvingo, won third place in the “Fastest Dog” race.  These victories are very impressive because more than 60 law enforcement dog teams from around the state took part in the competition. Recently, the K9 Unit was recognized at a City Council meeting by City Manager Margie C. Rose. The group included, Senior Officer Bernie Moss, Chief Mike Markle, City Manager Margie C. Rose, Senior Officer Josie Ressler, Captain Anthony Sanders, Senior Officer Jason Lavastida and K9 Officer Indy. Other members not in attendance include Senior Officer Sean Ostrander and Senior Officer Chris Lynch.
