Free Safe Digging Seminar

Encourages Community Safety

Planning to dig for any reason? The City of Corpus Christi-Nueces County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) and the Gulf Coast Damage Prevention Council are hosting a free seminar on Thursday, October 13. 2016, at the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds located at 1213 Terry Shamsie Boulevard, Robstown, Texas. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the seminar will commence at 9:15 a.m.

The Safe Digging Seminar will focus on issues and regulations regarding excavation work in Texas. Despite laws requiring a free call to Texas 811 and free locating of buried lines, excavators and even homeowners continue to strike underground lines, often causing severe property damage, injuries and death. Knowing where buried lines are located is the first step to safe digging.

Guests will watch a mock natural gas pipeline strike. The mock pipeline strike gives participants a rare opportunity to see and hear what happens when a gas pipeline is ruptured. Attendees will witness what happens when a backhoe accidentally punctures a pipe, releasing a cloud of natural gas into the air (pressurized air for safety purposes) and arrival of emergency responders who assess and deal with the incident.

A free training video and  lunch will be provided to participants. For more information contact Rick Ramos at (361) 826-3938 or register online at coastalbendcan.org.
