Firework Safety Reminder for New Year Celebrations

Firework Safety Reminder for New Year Celebrations

The Corpus Christi Fire Department wants to remind everyone that it is illegal to discharge fireworks inside the Corpus Christi city limits, which includes the beaches. If found illegally possessing or using fireworks, you could be fined up to $2,000 per package.

Fire and police departments will be working together to enforce the firework ordinance and fireworks can only be transported in the trunk or behind the last row of seats of a vehicle within city limits.

If you are going to use fireworks, please remember the following:

  • Fireworks are not allowed within city limits
  • Children need adult supervision
  • Have the land owner’s permission outside city limits
  • Alcohol and fireworks can be dangerous combination
  • Children should not pick up leftover fireworks because they may still be active
  • Read and follow firework directions
  • Never touch a firework after it has been lit
  • Only use fireworks outdoors
  • Have an emergency extinguishing method nearby

If anyone wishes to report the illegal use of fireworks, please call 886-COPS (2677).  Do not call 911 for firework complaints. For more information, please contact Capt. James Brown.
