Corpus Christi - Nueces County Public Health District Confirms Negative COVID-19 Test for First Responder

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi – Nueces County Public Health District confirmed late today the Firefighter exposed to COVID-19 has tested negative for the virus. The five firefighters, including the firefighter testing negative, will remain in isolation until April 2, 2020 out of an abundance of caution.

The three firefighters who had also been quarantined yesterday were released back to duty. Their exposure was secondary in nature and with the negative test results today do not require further isolation. In Corpus Christi, all firefighters are paramedic certified which can result in possible exposure when responding to medical calls for service.

“Our first responders are getting necessary protective equipment and training to reduce exposure,” said City Manager Peter Zanoni. “With local COVID-19 test processing, we can quickly determine if first responders with symptoms have the virus thus limiting exposure to the public and co-workers,” added Zanoni.
