City Parks and Recreation Department Earns Accreditation

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - The City’s Parks and Recreation Department has joined the ranks of the elite, by earning accreditation through the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies and the National Recreation and Park Association. The distinguished accomplishment was announced during the National Recreation and Park Association Conference in New Orleans. City Manager Margie C. Rose recognized the group during a recent council meeting.

The qualification means the department has met rigorous standards related to management and administration of lands, facilities, resources, programs, safety, and services.

As part of the process, the Parks and Recreation Department had to demonstrate compliance with 151 recognized standards and document all policies and procedures. The method helps identify efficiencies and heighten areas of accountability, which translates to higher quality of service and operation to benefit our community.

The process involves a formal application, self-assessments, a site visit by trained visitors, and a hearing with the commission to grant accreditation.
