Chaparral Street Two-Way Traffic Flow Conversion

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Starting October 1, Chaparral Street from Coopers Alley to IH 37 will become a two-way traffic flow corridor instead of one-way.

The traffic conversion is the final phase of the Bond 2008 and 2014 Chaparral Street Improvement Projects.

Chaparral Street is projected to be closed from Coopers Alley to IH 37 on Sunday, September 30 for 24 hours for final adjustments to street striping, traffic signals, and signage.

Parking and driving patterns will change with the new two-way street. Motorists are encouraged to drive slower and be aware of vehicles traveling in the opposite direction.

For improved safety and traffic flow, all 18-wheel truck traffic is advised to avoid the Chaparral two-way corridor since turning movements will be limited. Additionally, delivery trucks will not be allowed to stop along Chaparral Street.

The Bond 2008 Chaparral Street Phase 1 Improvement Project from William Street to Schatzel Street was completed in 2014 and received a full reconstruction with upgraded underground utilities, new pavement, widened sidewalks, street lights and landscaping.

The Bond 2014 Chaparral Street Phase 2 Improvement Project from Schatzel Street to Taylor Street received those same improvements and included pavement overlays from Coopers Alley to William Street and from Taylor Street to IH 37.
