CCIA Employee Soars to Higher Education

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - The City's Public Libraries are giving one employee an opportunity to reach new heights in her education and career.

Irma Segura, building and grounds custodian at the Corpus Christi International Airport (CCIA), is currently working to receive her high school diploma after receiving a scholarship for the library's new "Career Online High School Program Grant."

Although she dropped out of high school at a young age, Segura said she wants employees like her to know it's never too late to go back and welcome a new opportunity.

"I'm really so grateful to have the chance to get my diploma," she said. "I know it will be hard, and I might struggle, but I also know it's worth it."

Her tenacity has not gone unnoticed by other airport staff.

"Irma is a shining example of someone who comes to work every day with a great attitude and a willingness to work hard and get the job done," said Aviation Director Fred Segundo. "We are so proud of the commitment Irma is making to continuous learning and to achieving great things."

You don't have to be a city employee to take advantage of the Career Online High School Program Grant because it is open to the public. For more information, contact Libraries Director Laura Garcia at 361-826-7070.
